Munters new climate targets validated by SBTi
Apr 10, 2025
Munters has adopted new ambitious climate targets to reduce emissions related to the use of the company’s products and its own operations. The targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and support the goals of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees.
The analysis on which the goals are based was conducted in 2024. It confirms that almost all of Munters climate impact, more than 99%, stems from energy use related to the use phase of the company’s products. Munters is a global leader in dehumidification, cooling equipment and digital solutions used by customers in a variety of industries – from food to battery manufacturing and data centers – to create an optimal environment with maximized resource efficiency.
New target for Scope 3
Based on the new data, Munters has set a target to reduce carbon emissions from product usage (Scope 3, Category 11) by an average of 51.6% per unit sold by 2030 (base year 2023). Previously, Munters targets only included direct and indirect emissions from its own operations (Scope 1 and 2). This shift means that product development will play a more explicit role in Munters sustainability priorities moving forward.
“Our products are a critical part of the industrial infrastructure in large parts of the world, giving us at Munters an opportunity to contribute to our customers’ resource efficiency and consequently, to countering climate change. We are already investing in innovation that improves energy efficiency, and with these new targets, we are committing to a clear, ambitious, and science-based plan,” says Andréa Haag, Vice President Sustainability at Munters.
Updated target for Scope 1 & 2
Efforts also continue to reduce carbon emissions in Munters own operations where the updated goal is to cut Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% by 2030 (base year 2023). Munters previous target for Scope 1 and 2 was to reach net zero emissions by 2030. This is effectively a more comprehensive commitment as the new target accounts for the company’s growth and acquisitions.
“In a world with limited resources, we must act responsibly. The new ambitious targets reflect both our growth ambitions and how central sustainability is to Munters. Overall, this means that between 2023 and 2030, we aim to double in size and halve our climate footprint. This is motivating for our employees, benefits our customers, and creates value for our shareholders,” concludes Klas Forsström, President and CEO of Munters.
