The standard has been set

Mar 17, 2025

Munters has established a new benchmark for measuring and reporting the environmental impact of industrial dehumidification. The standard was developed in collaboration with Bureau Veritas, an independent global leader in testing, inspections, and certifications.

Since 2022, Munters has partnered with Bureau Veritas to conduct Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) on several of its products, including dehumidifiers, air treatment systems, and air-extracting fans. During this process, Bureau Veritas recognized Munters pioneering efforts as the first in the industry to perform LCAs on its products and encouraged them to develop a Product Category Rule (PCR).

What is a PCR?

A Product Category Rule (PCR) is a specific set of rules, requirements, and guidelines for developing LCAs and environmental product declarations (EDPs) for a specific product category.

For customers, this means they can trust the environmental information they receive about a product. For manufacturers, it ensures that their environmental impact assessments are consistent, transparent, and comparable to others in the industry.

“The standard helps create a level playing field and promotes fair competition and innovation,” says Michelle Marrone, Eco Design Manager at Munters.

The standard was developed with input from two of Munters competitors and underwent a rigorous process with Bureau Veritas as a moderator.

“As an industry innovator and thought leader, it’s important to drive development and create transparency – and work hand in hand with our competitors. We have had great collaborations throughout this process, and I’m very excited that we finally have a standard that we can all be proud of,” Michelle adds.
