Keith Dunnavant provides insights on Munters data center cooling innovation

Jan 14, 2025

Keith Dunnavant, Vice President of Offer Strategy and Portfolio Management at Munters, recently sat down with Barb Mitchell, Executive VP and Managing Director at JSA, to discuss the evolving challenges and opportunities in data center cooling.

During the conversation, Keith outlined Munters approach to addressing the demands of AI-driven workloads and high-density computing. A key focus has been the development of coolant distribution units (CDUs) ranging from 500 kilowatts to 1.5 megawatts. These units use advanced fluids and heat exchangers to efficiently manage the immense heat generated by high-performance chips.

Dunnavant also highlighted Munters collaboration with ZutaCore, an innovator in two-phase cooling technology. This strategic partnership eliminates risks associated with traditional water-based cooling systems while delivering greater efficiency through refrigerant-to-refrigerant heat transfer. "Our solutions are designed to reduce complexity and improve reliability for our customers, even under the most demanding conditions," Dunnavant shared.

Strategic acquisitions have further bolstered Munters capabilities. The recent addition of Geoclima’s energy-efficient chillers complements Munters SyCool™ systems, offering customers comprehensive, end-to-end heat rejection solutions. These innovations provide scalability and sustainability, critical for the future of data centers.

Munters is also addressing the need for global production capacity with the construction of a new 11,150 m2 facility in Cork, Ireland. This investment ensures Munters can meet growing global demand for advanced cooling technologies.

Dunnavant emphasized the importance of agility and collaboration in meeting these challenges. By integrating customer feedback with cutting-edge R&D, Munters is positioning itself as a trusted partner for data center operators navigating the rapid evolution of technology and sustainability requirements. He concluded, “This is the time to be nimble. We’re working hand-in-hand with our customers to solve problems in real time, ensuring they’re ready for what’s next.”
