From a backyard lab in Stockholm to the world's first e-fuel factory in Chile

The story of Munters begins eight kilometers north of Stockholm city. Here, in a residential area called Stocksund, Carl Munters and his team laid the foundation for a company that soon became a global leader in climate control.

Pioneering sustainable fuel production

In the windswept landscapes of Chile, the world's first industrial e-fuel plant is transforming renewable energy into carbon-neutral fuel. Utilizing wind power, the facility captures CO₂ directly from the air and combines it with green hydrogen to produce e-methanol, which is then converted into e-gasoline. This innovative process enables the use of existing combustion engines without relying on fossil fuels.

Munters plays a critical role in this groundbreaking project by providing mist elimination technology that ensures the captured CO₂ is 98% pure, a necessity for efficient fuel synthesis. The entire operation is powered by green electricity and steam generated from wind energy, resulting in a process with no additional emissions.

Scott Thron, Sales Manager at Munters, emphasizes the significance of this initiative:"This project really supports our sustainability approach because it allows the world to use existing cars without using fossil fuels while removing carbon from the atmosphere. To be a part of this says a lot about who we are and what our products can do."

A global vision for clean energy

The pilot project in Chile is already underway, with plans to establish similar facilities in the United States, the Middle East, and Asia. Munters longstanding expertise in air filtration and climate control positions it as a trusted partner in advancing sustainable technologies worldwide.

Munters journey from a backyard lab in Sweden to a key player in global e-fuel production is a testament to our commitment to innovation and sustainability. As we celebrate our 70th anniversary, we look forward to continuing this legacy and driving success for our customers worldwide.
