Munters Tech Tales: Sujata Wuthoo
Jan 14, 2025
As the Managing Director for Munters India, with 19 years of experience in the industrial technology sector, Sujata Wuthoo is known for her dedication to sustainability and for supporting the growth of her team.
From childhood inspiration to professional leadership
Sujata’s ambition and curiosity were shaped by her mother, who encouraged her to think independently and aim high. “She always pushed me to believe in my abilities and follow my interests,” Sujata recalls. From an early age, she was drawn to math and science, subjects often seen as unusual for girls at the time. While she initially considered a career in medicine, her curiosity about how things work led her to engineering. This shift in focus sparked a love for numbers and machines, eventually leading her to a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and a career in industrial technology.
Working through an acquisition and pandemic
Sujata’s career at Munters began when her previous company, Kevin Enterprise, was acquired by Munters in 2017. "The transition from an entrepreneurial environment to a corporate one was significant and an immense learning experience, it was a real challenge," she notes. During the acquisition, Sujata successfully maintained team morale and led her division to triple its business post-acquisition.
One of her proudest accomplishments was advocating for women on the shop floor. Something that took persistence but, after COVID, finally became a reality. Today, four women work alongside the men in the factory. A shift that, to her, symbolizes progress toward a more inclusive environment. Sujata sees it as a reminder of what’s possible when we keep pushing for positive change, even if it takes time.
Dedicated to sustainability
Sujata sees sustainability as a core value, deeply influencing both her personal and professional life.
"It's very important for us, both as individuals and as a company, to operate sustainably," she emphasizes. Sujata shares some practical steps taken at the office to reduce employee’s environmental footprint, such as replacing plastic water bottles with glass and minimizing the use of printed paper.
However, she is quick to point out that Munters commitment to sustainability extends beyond changing old habits. It is also about offering the most energy efficient products to support customers on their sustainability journey.
"Our business revolves around clean technologies, including solutions for emission control, carbon capture, and the removal of volatile organic compounds to prevent ozone formation. These innovations help reduce harmful pollutants and promote cleaner air," she says.
Inspiring others
Sujata’s leadership style was formed during her internship at Kevin Enterprises. Her mentor and Managing Director, Kevin M. Shah, always emphasized that leadership is about building connections with the team and having a common purpose. He encouraged her to focus on creating a positive and inclusive culture.
She has carried these values into her career, where she now serves as a mentor to others. She recalls a memorable moment when a young engineer approached her, expressing that she, Sujata, was her role model. "That experience reminded me of the importance of inspiring and supporting others," she reflects.
Sujata speaks highly of her journey at Munters and the opportunities it has provided for both personal growth and team development. "I think Munters is a fantastic organization. It has given me incredible opportunities. Not just to me, but to anyone ready to accept challenges and grow with the company. The most rewarding part has been the chance to motivate others and lead a team toward shared goals.”
Looking Ahead
Sujata remains dedicated to driving innovation and sustainability at Munters.
"We aim to streamline processes and enhance customer service while aligning with sustainability goals," she says.
Her vision for the future includes leveraging digital tools and promoting a working environment that is based on transparency and trust.
