From a backyard lab in Stockholm to cleaner air in semiconductor manufacturing
The story of Munters begins eight kilometers north of Stockholm city. Here, in a residential area called Stocksund, Carl Munters and his team laid the foundation for a company that soon became a global leader in climate control.

Innovation in air purification
As a U.S.-based semiconductor manufacturer sought to expand its production capacity, it faced the challenge of managing increased volumes of exhaust air laden with volatile organic compounds (VOCs). To address this, the company turned to Munters, a long-standing partner known for its effective air purification solutions.
Munters Zeolite Rotor System stands out by concentrating VOCs from large exhaust streams into a smaller airflow. This concentrated stream is then treated in a compact thermal oxidizer, significantly reducing energy consumption compared to traditional methods.
Scott Gagliostro, Sales Manager for Clean Technologies at Munters, explains:
"At their site, we take 34,000 standard cubic feet per minute (SCFM) of VOC-laden exhaust air and concentrate it down to 2,000 SCFM, which we treat with a small oxidizer. In other words, we only incinerate a fraction of the air compared to alternative technologies."
This approach not only achieves 95% cleaner exhaust air but also results in a 66% annual cost saving for each fabrication facility.

Reliability and ongoing support
Munters' system is designed for high reliability, requiring only one or two days of downtime per year for routine maintenance. Its minimal pressure fluctuations are crucial for semiconductor manufacturers, whose equipment is sensitive to such changes.
Gagliostro adds: "The semiconductor industry knows our technology well. We have many installations at different fabs, and, besides our high-performing products, much of our success can be attributed to our commitment to service. We provide what our customers need and offer support even after the units are installed, and that holds significant value for them."
Munters journey from a backyard lab in Sweden to a key player in global semiconductor manufacturing is a testament to our commitment to innovation and sustainability. As we celebrate our 70th anniversary, we look forward to continuing this legacy and driving success for our customers worldwide.
