In the heart of South Australia, d'VineRipe has revolutionized tomato cultivation, doubling capacity and producing first-grade tomatoes. A strategic partnership with Munters, a global provider of cutting-edge climate control solutions, was essential in achieving this feat.

Quick facts

  • Optimal growing conditions throughout the year
  • Consistently superior tomato grade
  • Predictable and consistent yields
  • Reduced need for chemical pesticides
  • Minimizes environmental impact
  • Efficient water usage and conservation
  • Reduced energy consumption for cooling and humidification

Solving the water and energy challenges

Solving the challenges of water and energy efficiency Managing water usage and energy consumption was paramount, especially in a climate spanning frigid -2°C to scorching +47°C temperatures. State-of-the-art cooling pad and fan technology from Munters delivered exceptional results in the original eight-hectare glasshouse as well as expanding the operations with a nine-hectare glass house to scale up operations. Consistent climatic control for optimal growth To promote a stable tomato-growing environment in the d’VineRipe glasshouses, Munters introduced climate control technology to maintain temperatures between 24°C and 28°C and humidity between 65% and 75%, regardless of fluctuating external weather conditions. This precise climate control is crucial for fostering healthy tomato growth and maximizing yields. Sustainable water sources for environmental responsibility Water conservation is a priority for d’VineRipe, and technology from Munters is vital in contributing to this endeavor. Water for cooling and humidifying the air in the growing environment is sustainably sourced, demonstrating the tomato producer’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

A modular and durable solution for long-term efficiency

Munters CELdek pads, manufactured from high-quality, algae- and mold-resistant materials, have been instrumental in maintaining optimal humidity and temperature. A total of 6,010 pads, each measuring 1.53 meters in height, 0.6 meters in width, and 0.15 meters in thickness, cover a 5,517-square-meter area. Strategic roof painting for year-round efficiency The glasshouse roof is routinely sprayed with white paint during the scorching summer months to reflect sunlight and minimize heat gain, further enhancing system performance. Conversely, the roof is meticulously washed clean during the winter to maximize solar absorption and minimize heat loss. Munters cooling system for durability and low maintenance Munters’ wet wall system, crafted from corrosion-resistant stainless steel for exceptional durability and a trouble-free service life, hold the evaporative cooling pads securely in place. The modular design facilitates easy installation, simplified routine inspections and periodic maintenance. Water recycling for circularity Munters’ system goes the extra mile by recycling water from the wet wall system for reuse, conserving resources and reducing environmental impact. This circular approach reflects the dedication of d’VineRipe to sustainable practices.
